Reconfigurable photonic circuits are essential for emerging photonic computing and switching technologies. Recent years have witnessed remarkably rapid progress in the experimental implementations of reconfigurable photonic circuits, which are well poised to outperform their electronic counterparts in terms of scale, areal computation density, power consumption, latency, and speed. This heralds the potential for disruptive real-world applications in the domains of neural networks, neuromorphic computing, and interconnect switching technologies. The scope of this session covers recent research efforts on the materials, elementary devices, and large-scale circuits for reconfigurable photonic circuits.
