Session Infomation

Recent advances in fabrication and processing methods have spurred many breakthroughs in the field of nano- and micro-structures. They provide novel ways of manipulating light interaction in a controllable manner, thereby enabling various innovative applications. Among them structural color, which generates distinctive colors employing optical resonant properties in the nanostructures, is one emerging area that attracts much attention in recent years.

Both transmissive or reflective colors have been realized by various means, offering distinct advantages such as high brightness, adjustable color purity, high stability, special iridescent effect, high reproducibility, easy manufacturability, high spatial resolution, and slim dimension, over the existing colorants that rely on the organic dyes or pigments to absorb a spectral portion in the visible wavelength range for the color generation.

In this session, recent achievements of the structural colors and color filters based on optical properties in the nanostructures and their corresponding applications are presented. Many methodologies can be extended to other wavelength ranges, which provides a broader scope originated from this area.
