Recently, fiber optical sensing technology has attracted tremendous attention in the areas of research and industries. There are a wide variety of available sources of information on optical fiber sensors. Different types of optical fiber sensors have been developed and applied in the fields of oil&gas, railway, structural health monitoring, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and biomedical etc. Depending on the working principles, the optical fiber sensing technology includes distributed optical fiber sensors, grating sensors, interferometry sensors, which are based on single mode fiber, multimode fiber, multicore fiber, and specialty optical fibers such as microstructured optical fiber, photonic crystal fibers, multi-materials fibers and so on. This session will provide an overview of the latest research achievements in this area and also include some successful applications in the industry.
