Session Infomation

One of the areas currently under rapid development in modern optoelectronic science is sensors for chemical and biological analysis. Detection of diseases, environment monitoring, personalized medicine and drug development all demand measurement tools that are sensitive, selective, robust and accessible. Progresses in nanotechnology and material science have allowed new forms of optical sensors made with readily available techniques. Advances in ultrasensitive detection enable analysis of trace amount of analytes possible, with method such as surface plasmon resonance, Raman or fluorescence spectroscopy. With new technologies brought by microfluidics, super-resolution imaging and optical tweezers etc, samples can now be studied with high degree of control. Via an interdisciplinary approach, this session brings engineers of optoelectronics backgrounds with chemists, biologist and clinicians in a joint session.
