Light is one of the universe driving forces as it is needed for life to be sustained and, similarly, it plays the key role in photonics/electromagnetic related phenomena. Here we shall address the role of light, from gamma rays to radio waves, in both natural and artificial phenomena occurring in Space environment. With this session we will indeed "move away" from Earth to look at photonics/electromagnetism with an augmented level of complexity, as coming from the Space environment. We wish to answer to the general question: How can we exploit light for future Space missions? In this regard, we are interested in both technological light-based solutions (e.g., materials providing resistance to ionization radiations, Space-grade optical fibers, etc.) and in light-driven natural phenomena that could be exploited especially for Space applications (e.g., Solar sails).
